PACS Technology, Radiology Technology and Digital Radiology
NightHawk Radiology Services applies the latest developments in PACS and digital radiology technology to its business practices. PACS data is sent from customer facilities over a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN). Our fully redundant LAN/WAN network infrastructure is designed to ensure the utmost in reliability, providing security and stability to your transmission.
NightHawk Radiology Workflow
When an image is taken at a NightHawk-affiliated hospital, it is sent to NightHawk through our highly reliable virtual private network. The workflow software then identifies the most appropriate radiologist based on his or her specialization, hospital credentials and workload capacity (how busy he or she is at that time)
Upon receipt, the NightHawk radiologist performs a preliminary evaluation of the scan and dictates a written report. The patient data and report are sent back to the originating hospital, and if the evaluation requires immediate attention, the local physician may be contacted to discuss the findings that night. If the evaluation does not require immediate attention, the scan undergoes a primary evaluation the following morning by the local radiologist.
Rapid Sign-On with NightHawk
During implementation, NightHawk works closely with hospital staff to define and implement the network technology that is optimal for the teleradiology site. Hospitals can use technology and staff most likely already in place, such as:
- Software and hardware to compress DICOM images and transfer images in the JPEG lossless format. If the hospital is not currently using this type of software, the cost of equipment and software implementation is very affordable.
- A high-speed connection to the Internet to transport images to the reading centers. Typically this can be achieved through utilizing the existing Internet T-1 of the hospital.
- A technical contact person to assist us during the implementation.
- Credentialing assistance from the radiology group will also help to expedite the implementation process.
